Mirror, Mirror
by Donnie Denome
My reflection is a girl,
Somewhere between thirteen and fourteen years old,
She smiles when I do,
And turns in tandem with me.
My reflection has her hair cut short,
Just like mine,
She has the same wild face,
You might confuse us.
Mirror, mirror,
On the wall,
Whose reflection
Doesn’t match them at all?
Mirror, mirror,
Framed so high,
Whose reflection
Is a lie?
I try to avoid mirrors,
Try to avoid the girl I’m not,
But my reflection is everywhere,
Cackling at me behind my back.
It’s her voice when I speak,
Her body painted in my clothes.
Only my spirit has autonomy,
And it rents its house from her.
Mirror, mirror,
Sparkling sweet,
How fair it is,
Your deceit
